St. Francis of Assisi Blessing of the Animals
This year, Grace Church of Millbrook, NY and the Trevor Zoo of Millbrook School are co-hosting a Blessing of the Animals to honor and celebrate the wonder and diversity of life on earth, to raise awareness of the plight of many endangered species around the world, and to remind us that we are all responsible for the care of God’s creation. The event will begin at 3 pm at the Meigs Education Center and will be hosted by Jon Meigs, former Director of the Trevor Zoo, and Jane Meigs, former Conservation Education Director, Alan Tousignant, current director, and the Rev. Dr. Matthew Calkins, Rector of Grace Church, Millbrook. Other local clergy will also be involved including the Rev. Megan Sanders from St. Paul’s in Pleasant Valley. Entrance fees will be waived for the event, and participants will be invited to different parts of the zoos where blessings and prayers will be offered for the animals in the zoo, and by extension all animals of the world, especially those in danger of extinction. There will be time for questions and conversations and to explore the zoo. All are welcome.
